Innovation powered by open data
In mid-2025, one of DeepCivic’s team members met a start-up who shared their story. Before any funding or fanfare, they had to prove they had a viable concept. The hardest part of proving they had a viable idea for a product was collecting the data.
DeepCivic aggregates metadata from open data portals. This project was built on the belief that the next generation of technology innovation can be accelerated by simplifying exploration of civic data.
Goals
- Provide an aggregator that brings as much open data as feasible into one place (Deepcivic.com.au)
- Transform useful information into practical data sets, these are stories and write-ups
- Share the tools we build to achieve items 1 and 2
Initially our focus is on Australian open data. As the project matures we’ll expand to more open data sources. While the website itself will likely be preserved over a longer duration, the team is currently expecting active development to continue until 2030.
