1:500 000 State Cenozoic geology (DMIRS-078)

The digital '1:500 000 State interpreted bedrock geology of Western Australia' is an update to the '1:500 000 State interpreted bedrock geology of Western Australia, 2016'. It comprises three layers: the primary 1:500 000 State interpreted bedrock geology, the 1:500 000 State Cenozoic geology and the 1:500 000 State linear structures layer. The 1:500 000 State interpreted bedrock geology layer includes revised stratigraphy in the West Musgrave Province, West Arunta Orogen, East Pilbara, Capricorn Orogen, Eastern Capricorn basins and Murchison project areas; a new stratigraphic framework for the East Yilgarn project area is also included. The 1:500 000 State Cenozoic geology layer has no current updates from the 2016 revision. Compilation is based on published 1:100 000 and 1:250 000 Geological Series maps of Western Australia, together with GSWA and GA (AGSO, BMR) regional geological maps at scales from 1:250 000 to 1:1 000 000. Information from these maps has been modified locally, using geophysical datasets (magnetics, radiometrics and gravity), remote sensing imagery (ASTER and LANDSAT), seismic and magnetotelluric profiles, drilling, and unpublished geological mapping. The Cenozoic layer overlies the pre-Cenozoic layer to depict Cenozoic paleovalleys and other areas of significant Cenozoic bedrock. The linear structures layer refers primarily to pre-Cenozoic structures and attribution of concealed structures refers to those that are older than the pre-Cenozoic unit in question.
